Rivian Confirms R2 Deliveries 'By June' as Validation Builds Begin

Rivian told WGLT it plans to begin R2 deliveries by June. The statement narrows the window, but key ramp details remain undisclosed.

Rivian Automotive said it intends to begin customer deliveries of the R2 SUV by June 2026, WGLT reported. The company has previously used a first half of 2026 window, and the June phrasing narrows that guidance.

WGLT reported the update after a tour of Rivian’s Normal, Illinois facility. It cited Tony Sanger, Rivian’s vice president for production facilities, as saying construction work for the R2 line was complete and that the line was moving through early build activity.

Those early builds matter because they define whether the calendar promise is realistic. An automaker can announce a delivery month without having a stable line, but customers only see cars once the build process is repeatable and suppliers are shipping at quality.

Rivian has described the R2 as a lower-cost, higher-volume program than its current R1 line. The company has also described a target starting price of $45,000 for the R2, which puts it directly into the electric crossover segment where scale and pricing discipline matter.

The company has not published a detailed ramp profile, production volume targets for 2026, or final specifications for every configuration. It also has not said how it will prioritize trims at launch, which is often the difference between a handful of early deliveries and a real market presence.

The June phrasing therefore reads as a milestone rather than a guarantee of immediate scale. The next concrete datapoints will be Rivian’s own production and delivery disclosures and any plant-level commentary the company provides through its newsroom updates.
