Genesis Unveils 2027 GV90 with Pillarless Coach Doors and 123.5-kWh Battery
Genesis reveals the 2027 GV90 flagship electric SUV in San Francisco, featuring pillarless coach doors, 657 hp, and a 123.5-kWh battery pack.
On August 19, 2026, Genesis unveiled the production 2027 GV90 at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts. The full-size electric SUV measures 208 inches in total length and sits on a 127.8-inch wheelbase. That footprint places it directly against established flagships like the Cadillac Escalade IQ and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.
Genesis will sell the vehicle in two distinct body formats. The base GV90 uses conventional forward-hinged doors and three rows of seating. The halo trim, badged the GV90 Neolun, eliminates the center B-pillar entirely and introduces opposing coach doors.
Automakers have shown pillarless coach doors on concept cars for decades. Engineering teams almost always discard them before production because meeting federal side-impact and roof-crush standards without a center post is an engineering headache. Genesis claims it solved the structural problem by putting dual high-strength steel beams inside the doors and using a passenger cell frame that is 1.5 times thicker than standard designs.
The rear door mechanics required a brand-new design. Genesis installed a dual-motion hinge that pops the rear door outward before swinging it rearward. That mechanism lets the front and rear doors open and close independently without forcing a passenger to unlatch the front door first.
Underneath sits Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated eMP electric platform. A 123.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack powers dual electric motors generating 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. This is the largest traction battery the South Korean automaker has ever installed in a road vehicle.
Genesis estimates the standard seven-seat version will achieve approximately 310 miles of driving range on a single charge. That rating will drop on the heavier four-seat Neolun trim, which adds 24-inch forged wheels, radiant heated flooring, and motorized captain chairs. Rivian and Lucid pull significantly more mileage out of their large battery packs, and the Escalade IQ claims more than 450 miles using a massive 205-kilowatt-hour pack.
DC fast charging relies on an 800-volt electrical architecture. Genesis claims a 350-kilowatt charger will take the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in 22 minutes under ideal temperature conditions. That speed looks good on a spec sheet, provided the public charging station down the road can actually supply that much current.
Inside the Neolun trim, Genesis installed radiant heating panels beneath real wood flooring to warm passengers from the ground up. The front seats swivel 180 degrees to face the rear lounge when the vehicle is parked. A motorized 24.6-inch OLED screen rises out of the dashboard, and the center console houses a dedicated beverage refrigerator.
The SUV drops the standard ignition button. Stepping inside and applying pressure to the brake pedal powers up the high-voltage system, while a motorized rotary dial selects drive gears.
Safety equipment consists of twelve airbags. Genesis added a specialized roof airbag that deploys across the glass ceiling during a rollover accident. Independent test data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Euro NCAP will prove whether structural foam and reinforced latches can match a traditional steel B-pillar in severe collisions.
Genesis plans to build 200 units of a special Neolun First Edition before regular series production begins. Official pricing has not been released, though automotive trade reports suggest top-spec Neolun trims will exceed $140,000.
Korean Car Blog, an automotive publication based in South Korea, reported that domestic sales will begin late this year, followed by an arrival in North American showrooms in early 2027.
A long feature list and rear-hinged doors do not guarantee everyday usability. If you want a dependable electric tow vehicle or long-distance family hauler, examine real-world highway efficiency and cold-weather energy consumption before getting seduced by heated wood floors.
